Seeing as Horror is my favourite movie genre and I have Halloween blues (is this even a thing????) I thought I would do a Top 15 Horror/Scary movies/franchises and series.
1. Insidious ( Trilogy )
The story centres on a couple whose son inexplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for ghosts in an astral dimension who want to inhabit his body, in order to once again live. The second movie focuses on the same family but more so the father.
2. The Freddy Krueger Franchise
The franchise revolves around the fictional character Freddy Krueger, a former child killer who stalks teenagers in their dreams and kills them. His motives were to seek revenge on their parents, who had burned him alive. This franchise has 9 movies in it.
3. Halloween Franchise
The franchise focuses on the character of Michael Meyers who was committed to a sanitarium as a child for the murder of his older sister, Judith Meyers. Fifteen years later, he escapes to stalk and kill the people of Haddonfield, Illinois while being chased by his former psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis. Michael's killings occur on the holiday of Halloween on which all of the films primarily take place. There are 10 movies currently in this franchise
4. Carrie
This is the 2013 remake of the 1976 movie about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
5. Sinister
This movie stars Ethan Hawke as fictional true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt who discovers a box of home movies in his attic that puts his family in danger. I have not seen sinister 2 so I can not give a plot towards it.
6. The Women In Black 1/2
A young lawyer (Daniel Radcliffe) travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorising the locals. The Women in Black 2 happens 40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrive, awakening the house's darkest inhabitant.
7. Beetlejuice
A horror movie classic of course. The plot revolves around a recently deceased young couple who become ghosts haunting their former home, and an obnoxious, devious ghost named Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice) from the Netherworld who tries to scare away the new inhabitants permanently.
8. The Saw Franchise
The franchise revolves around the fictional character of John Kramer also called the "Jigsaw Killer" or simply "Jigsaw". He was introduced briefly in Saw and developed in more detail in Saw II. Rather than killing his victims outright, Jigsaw traps them in situations that he calls "tests" or "games" to test their will to live through physical or psychological torture. There are currently 7 movies in this franchise with a 8th being rumoured.
9. Prom Night
This is a remake of the 1980 movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The film's plot concerns a high school girl named Donna Keppel who was traumatised after witnessing her former teacher Richard Fenton brutally murder her entire family after he had become dangerously obsessed with her. Three years later, as Donna is getting ready for her senior prom, Richard Fenton escapes custody from the authorities and follows her to the hotel hosting the prom and kills anybody who gets in his way of reuniting with Donna.
10. Final Destination
This is about a teenager who cheats death after having a premonition of a catastrophic plane explosion. He and several of his classmates leave the plane before the explosion occurs, but Death gradually takes the lives of those who should have died on the plane.
11. Jeepers Creepers 1/2
A brother and sister driving home for spring break encounter a flesh-eating creature in the isolated countryside that is on the last day of its ritualistic eating spree. Jeepers creepers 2 is set a few days after the original, a championship basketball team's bus is attacked by The Creeper, the winged, flesh-eating terror, on the last day of his 23-day feeding frenzy. There is currently a Third on being made.
12. Texas Chainsaw
A young woman travels to Texas to collect an inheritance; little does she know that an encounter with a chainsaw-wielding killer is part of the reward.
13. The Devil Inside
This is a documentary type film, set in Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorised exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.
14. The Addams Family
The Addams Family is a group of fictional characters created by American Cartoonist Charles Addams. The Addams Family characters have traditionally included Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, Cousin Itt and Thing. The Addamses are a satirical inversion of the ideal American family; an eccentric, wealthy clan who delight in the macabre and are unaware, or do not care, that other people find them bizarre or frightening.
15. The Nightmare before Christmas
It tells the story of Jack Skellington , a character from "Halloween Town" who opens a portal to "Christmas Town" and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences.
