Hello, I have a book review today and its called Girls by Savannah Avery. I have never done a proper book review on here before so when I saw that Savannah was giving people a chance to read and review her book I jumped at the chance, because it was a excuse to read another book!!
So I have finally gotten around to reading the book and I actually really enjoyed the book, it was so unique and the only real complaint I have is that it was NOT LONG ENOUGH! When I realised I was nearing the end of the book I was genuinely upset I wanted more of the girls, I wanted them to still be together and was upset when they all had to split up.
The synopsis of the book from Goodreads is 'Seventeen year old Coco meets a group of girls who have everything she ever wanted - Friendship, Independence, Beauty and attention from boys. But being one of the girls isn't easy. The group's leader M has strict rules and requires all of her girls to use their bodies to make her money. What is Coco willing to give up to become one of the girls?'
The synopsis of the book is what actually made me want to read the book, I thought it sounded different from anything I have ever read and I applaud the author for coming up with such a different concept!
As I think I have made it clear I loved the main plot of the book but now the Characters, I did not like M! I dont know if thats the way we are supposed to feel about her but I just thought she was a bully to the girls at sometimes but when she was open about things, especially near the end I thought she was somewhat likable, I wish we got more with Katherine because she was definitely my favourite of the four, as she is the tough and strong girl of the group but actually loyal and funny and relatable and is the main characters closet friend
Coco, who is the main character in this book is really sad and lost at the start of the novel and just wants to fit in and feel loved by M. All four girls love M and strive to be like her and will do anything to make her happy which does show how naive and vulnerable young girls can be especially the youngest character 'Kitty' who is described as being soft spoken, young looking for her age but very beautiful but rarely speaks and basically follows M's lead for everything.
This book is just a harsh reminder that sex trafficking does happen and can happen to anyone that's vulnerable enough and can happen anywhere!
This book was beautifully written with many impacting quotes, I would have loved the book to have been longer and I hope the author Savannah does more work like this in the future and I think this was a great debut for her!.
