Since I haven't done a proper Fashion post in quite awhile so I thought I should share a few people that I consider 'Fashion Icons' , these are some people who's style inspires my own style and basically just people who I think have made a big impact in the fashion industry with their style.
Emma Watson - Now there is only one way to describe Emma's style and that is sophisticated. Both her street style and Red carpet looks are perfect and classy, she tends to always be polished in stand-out dresses which have become her signature look for red carpets and has a preppy off-duty style. Basically she has a elegant and sexy but still age appropriate style that inspires many young people around the world.

Cara Delevingne - Everyone who knows Cara, loves her, and her style (and her eyebrows), both her off-duty and when modelling. She has a really edgy and quirky style. She has also got a slight tomboyish kind of style that is really nice and has definitely inspired my take on fashion and because she is so big in the modelling industry and I am sure she has inspired many more.
Kate Moss - Kate Moss is probably one of the biggest names in the fashion and modelling industry. She has a very rock chick look but also does grown-up glamour with perfection. She flits between decades as she takes inspiration from Vintage fashion and she loves the style from the late 1960s and 1970s , channelling that rock chick style.
Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift has mastered both street style and red carpet style. I find that she is the best fashion inspiration as she can be seen wearing really affordable clothes and they are really wearable. She still has a very girly style but can sometimes be edgy and never disappoints when seen on the red carpet with stand out dresses.
Edie Sedgwick - Edie is a classic rock girl. She was beautiful, sharp and undeniably sparkling. When I think of her the first thing I think of is actually not her fashion sense or anything but bold, black, thick eyeliner. Her style was mainly black tights and short dresses that were more like shirts (aka; my style) but she also loved to wear metallic monochromatic ensembles, shiny jewellery, fur coats and she looked amazing doing so. Edie was ethereal, wraith like, a spunky spirit animal and was known for it.
Twiggy - When I think of fashion icons (especially the 60s era) the first person I usually think of is Twiggy. Twiggy was more than just a model in the 60s or a magazine maven, she was a trendsetter, a daring dresser and just a complete icon in herself. She was often seen in dresses and skin that hit six or seven inches above the knee, here we have the 'mini' dress and it quickly made it's way to magazine covers, it was made popular by Mary Quant but modelled by Twiggy. Another Twiggy iconic outfit were 'shift' dresses, a rule of hers was she didn't choose fussy styles, instead allowing her legs to be the focus point. There are many other iconic fashion statements made by Twiggy, including the 'ribbed sweater' and wearing men's accessories and clothing and she will always be the most known fashion icon and don't even get me started on her makeup statements, that's a whole other blog post!
Jean Birkin - Jane Birkin had a breezy, bohemian style that many people have been into recently, she just has a signature effortless style. She was often photographed in off-the-shoulder white blouses, wide-leg trousers and delicate gold chains. She hailed from England and left a lasting impression on French style. She wore relaxed denim, crop tops, tennis shoes and perfect bangs and wore them completely effortlessly.
Brigitte Bardot - Bardot had killer curves and her super - feminine, sexuality led to her being dubbed a 'sex-kitten', but is also very known for her effortless style and here are some trends that we can thank her for. Her trademark pale pink pout and beehive do defined the decade. This is the women who introduced the thick winged eyeliner into the world, and many years later it shows no signs of leaving (thankfully).
Picnic-print (gingham) was put on the map when Bardot wore a pink gingham wedding dress for he 1959 wedding and this print has still not going anywhere anytime soon.
Bardot even has neckline named after her, the 'bardot' is the name given to a top that lies off-the-shoulder, Brigitte also embraced the classic French stripes that are still a fashion staple. She was always seen with floppy hats which is still another fashion staple today.
Nico - Nico was labelled as one of the most beautiful people by those who knew her, with a unique style and a equally deep Teutonic voice, she is one of the 60s and 70s true fashion outsiders. In keeping with the rise of the 'Modern' look, she opted for a masculine trouser suits with clean cut lines in simple colours. In a bid to please a new lover of hers, she dyed her hair red and her image changed into a timeless European one with her Spanish leather boots in soft sandy hues, autumnal tunics with loose fitting harem pants.
Nico pioneered the men's suit trouser as an effortlessly chic piece of clothing, proving that you can dress comfortably but still be stylish all at once. From classic chic to desert chic, Nico always remained the epitome of mystery and European cool, she retained her elegance, grace and sense of style till the end. A timeless beauty all around.
Iman - Iman is known for being the world's first black supermodel. Her long neck, tall stature, slender figure, fine features, copper-toned skin and exotic accent made her a hit in the fashion industry.
She herself insists that her looks are merely or typically Somali. She was muse for many fashion photographers and fashion designers and Yves Saint Laurent even devoted a whole collection to her, named 'The African Queen'
In 1994, Iman launched her own cosmetics line for women of colour - 'The Iman Collection' aimed at women of colour - Hispanic, Asian, Native American and black women, the collection was a big success.
Now retired from modelling, Iman has done countless of charity work and is now settled down with her kids and husband, rockstar David Bowie.
Jean Shrimpton - Not only was Jean Shrimpton a true 60s style icon, Jean has been credited with some monumental firsts, she was known as one of the first supermodels and was also one of the first to launch the 'mini skirt', which was 10cm above her knee, which was pretty shocking for that time. She had a natural beauty and a effortless style which was always and will always be inspiring.
There are obviously so many other women that are also considered fashion icons (Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, etc.) and also men fashion icons, but if I was to name them all or start on the male fashion icons it would take me quite a long time to-do so. So I hope this is enough for now and I may write a second part in the near future.
Thanks for reading,
Bye,
Jodi
